About BEAA
British East Asian Artists or BEAA is a loose collective of creatives and academics who formed organically in response to the controversial casting of the RSC's production of The Orphan of Zhao in 2012. As a result of the issues arising from this controversy, BEAA members actively work towards combating discrimination and stereotyping of East Asian cultures in the arts and media, whilst raising the profile of East Asians in these spheres. BEAA's Creative Lab was started to provide an informal space where East Asian actors can meet, share ideas and, eventually, provide a platform for East Asian performers and creatives to showcase their work.
