Redford Trio Jack Redford (Bass), Ollie Haycock (Guitar) and Richard Muscat (Alto Saxophone) was at W&T on Saturday 20 July 2013 to provide a chill-out jazz ambience. Thank you guys for the special session! We had a rip-roaring live music session with Maggie Casey and her mates on Saturday, 6 July 2013. From Irish ditties to Scottish folk tunes, to self-penned music and lyrics from the scathingly irreverent and very funny Kath Tait (To get a flavour check out her website, listen to her music or pick up a copy of her CD, Bastard!), the session had an informal feel of a jam session. Thank you to all the wonderful musicians for serenading us with your awesome talent and for sharing your obvious love of music with us. Thank you to everyone who dropped by and enjoyed the afternoon with us. Watch this space, as Maggie and her friends will be back for another session this autumn :) [Or sign up for event updates here] Composer Pete M Wyer shared some verses from his poetry chapbook, The Dance Around the Fire, published by the San Francisco publisher Alternating Current, as well as some music pieces on Tuesday evening, 2 July. It was an informal event with some irreverent and tongue-in-cheek fun, including a short performance of Pete's 'play' 'Neanderthals.' Thank you Pete for sharing your beautiful words, music and humour with us :)
Costanza and Anjana with old and new fans :)
Awesome and amaaaaazing talent at Woolfson & Tay today with classical guitarist Costanza Casullo and singer-songwriter Anjana Vasan! Thank you ladies for wonderful performances! It was a bit of a tight squeeze but it didn't matter as both women brought the house down with their wonderful music, especially when they performed their own compositions. In fact, by the time the hour-and-half acoustic session was over, both performers definitely had new fans. [Not all pictured. Some people were waaaaay back round the corner :) ] Questions overheard after we had wrapped up: 'Can we buy her song on iTunes?' and 'Do you have a CD?' One visitor, who happened to chance by at the shop, in London on a holiday break from Paris, told me she thoroughly enjoyed herself. Thank you again to Costanza and Anjana for a truly melodic afternoon. And thank you to all who dropped in too :) For more info about Costanza, visit http://www.youtube.com/user/ac00025 To listen to Anjana's music, visit https://soundcloud.com/anjana-vasan Lovers of music, join us at our next acoustic music session on Saturday 6 July at 3pm for an Irish and folk music jamming session with Maggie Casey and friends. Irish musicians John Garvey, Jessica Harris and Hugh Murray were in town on Sunday the 19th June for an afternoon of music at Woolfson & Tay. John and Jessica performed several duets, some of them original numbers written by John, as well as some old favourites, including the Irish number, The Galway Shawl -- apt really as John's originally from Galway :) Hugh Murray did some bluesy bluegrass numbers which showcased his deft guitar work. It was awesome and truly beautiful. Stay tuned, the trio may make another appearance at W&T in the near future! Check out the video below for a flavour of what the audience experienced. Nigel of Bermondsey and actors Kim and Carl from Inner Sanctum Theatre Company were on hand to entertain the noon crowd at Woolfson & Tay on 21 Dec 2010. Mulled wine and minced pies were served while Kim and Carl enthralled the public with a dramatic reading from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, while Nigel got everyone in the holiday mood with a sing-a-long Christmas carolling session. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas everyone! These are one of those moments when I wished I had a video on me. What a night! We had a small group at the last poetry open mic session for the year and it was fun, fun, fun! How to describe the headline acts Meryl Jones and Anti-Poet? Meryl delighted the crowd with very adult themes we could all identify with, incl her thoughts on 'democratic porno' while Anti-Poet got the crowd all riled up with their 'punk poetry' (my words, not theirs) that was both irreverent yet astutely observed. Watch this website for next year's sessions :) Thank you to Daniel Cockrill from Bang Said The Gun for another fantastic session and the open mic-ers who dared to share! |
